Thinwire Full Screen Encoder

Overview

With the release of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 2503 and onward, the ‘Optimize for 3D Graphics workload’ policy has been deprecated and removed.

This policy has been replaced by the Full Screen Encoder, which provides enhanced functionality and improved user experience for certain graphically intense workloads.

The Full Screen Encoder can be configured using the ‘Use video codec for compression’ policy, set to ‘For the entire screen’.

The Full Screen Encoder simplifies configuration while offering robust performance for graphics-intensive workloads. It ensures the entire screen is encoded using a video codec, foregoing any screen analysis or bandwidth optimization to maximize frame rate and interactivity.

This mode is particularly suited for 3D applications and workloads where consistent graphical fidelity is paramount.

The primary benefit of the Full Screen Encoder is that it is able to leverage the YUV444 color space. Moreover, full Screen encoding can provide the highest frame rate possible, up to 120 Frames per second (FPS) compared to the Selective encoder, but uses more bandwidth and resources as a result.
